Shortly after the book launch on May 7, Will Weigler, project director and author of the book about From the Heart, will be boarding a train to start a six-week book tour, joining about about sixty other community-based theatre artists and others on a project called Train of Thought. The project is produced by Toronto’s Jumblies Theatre with partners from all across Canada. The project began when a group of Canadian community-based artists started talking about how to share our different engagement practices and projects with each other. As they began to envision what a national project might look like, participating artists from around the country felt that the most urgent matter we face today in the field is the challenge of building collaborations and alliances among settler/immigrant artists & communities, and First Nations artists & communities.
At each of the stops, Will is going to be arranging radio and print interviews and possibly book readings to encourage communities large and small to pick up where we left off—to use the book as a model to create their own productions of From of Heart.
If you are able to contribute to Will’s effort to make sure From the Heart takes root as an arts-based community dialogue project around the country, we welcome your support. Between train and bus tickets, lodging, food, and a ticket home at the end of June, Will needs to raise about $5,000. Anything will help: $20, $40, or even $100 or more if you can manage it.
Jumblies has offered to let people make credit card donations directly to Will through their charitable society. Click here for that option and be sure to add a note that it is to support Will Weigler’s expenses for the Train of Thought project. (For any Canadian donation over $20 Jumblies will issue you a tax receipt.)
You can also mail Will a direct donation by cheque. His address is 2-1554 Gladstone Ave, Victoria, BC V8R 1S5.
Thank you for being a part of making this happen.
